Description

Sirolimus 5mg Tablet is an immunosuppressant drug used along with other medicines to prevent the body from rejecting a kidney transplant. This medication is not suggested for use in children less than 13 years of age.

Sirolimus is used with other medications to stop the rejection of a kidney transplant. This medication belongs to a group of drugs known as immunosuppressants. It works by debilitating your body's defense system (immune system) to help your body receive the new organ as if it were your own.

It may also be used to treat a particular lung disease (lymphangioleiomyomatosis-LAM).

Organ Transplant - Rejection Prophylaxis

This medicine is used to prevent the rejection of an organ transplant.

Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis

This medication is used in the treatment of Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis, a condition which affects the lungs of especially women of childbearing ages, leading to progressive lung dysfunction.

Sirolimus 5mg Tablet suppresses the activity of the body's immune system and prevents rejection of the transplanted organ.

Take this drug in the dose and duration as proposed by your doctor. Consume it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Sirolimus 5mg Tablet may be used with or without food, but it is preferable to take it at a fixed time.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Sirolimus 1 mg Tablet, take the missed dose as soon as you recall. If it is about time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Take emergency medical treatment or contact a doctor immediately in case of an overdose.

Allergy

This medicine is not suggested for use in patients with a known allergy to generic drug sirolimus or any other components there along with it.

General warnings

Use in pediatrics

This medication is not recommended for use in children less than 13 years of age.

Blood pressure

This drug may cause an increase in blood pressure. Close monitoring of blood pressure is required during treatment with this medicine.

Use of contraception

Women of labor age are counsel to utilize adequate contraception before, during, and for 12 weeks following treatment with this drug to avoid pregnancy. This drug may cause serious side effects in the fetus.

What is Sirolimus-eluting stent?

The Sirolimus-eluting stent is a metal stent coated with 140 µg/cm2 of Sirolimus blended with synthetic polymers. After stent implantation, it is slowly released causing contained inhibition of growth of smooth muscle cells in the wall of the blood vessel in which it is implanted throughout about one month.
