Etilaam 0.25 mg tablet is used in the treatment of insomnia (difficulty in sleeping) and short term anxiety

How it works

Etilaam 0.25 mg tablet induces sleep and controls seizures or fits by increasing the action of GABA, a chemical messenger which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

Impaired concentration, Yawning, Headache, Dizziness, Blurred vision, Hiccup, Sleepiness, Insomnia, Vomiting, Weakness, Altered behaviour, Increase in temperature, Nausea, Dry mouth, Muscle coordination impaired, Irritability, Slurred speech, Loss of appetite, Memory impairement, Fatigue, Jaundice, Muscle weakness, Double vision, Altered libido, Itching, Coordination impaired, Irregular menstrual cycle, Speech disorder, Sedation, Slow heart rate, Urinary retention, Drowsiness, Memory loss, Constipation, Unsteadiness, Respiratory depression, Seizure

Why it is prescribed :

This medication is a hypnotic and sedative, prescribed for anxiety, and sleep disorders.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):

Contraindicated in patients with increased eye pressure, coma, sleep disorder, severe liver impairment, porphyria, severe lung disease, and hypersensitivity.

Pregnancy Category : Category C

Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus and there are no appropriate studies in pregnant women, but potential benefits may allow the use of the drug in pregnant women despite the potential for risks.

Dosage & When it is to be taken (Indications):

Adult: PO- The recommended dose is up to 3 mg/day.

How it should be taken :

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.

Warnings and Precautions :

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of lung insufficiency, muscle weakness, impaired liver or kidney function, alcoholism or drug addiction, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Side Effects :

Most Common - Drowsiness, sedation, muscle weakness and incoordination.

Central Nervous System - Fainting, headache, confusion, depression, slurred speech, changes in libido and tremor.

Miscellaneous - Visual disturbances, urinary retention or incontinence, gastrointestinal disturbances, changes in salivation and memory loss.

Other Precautions :

Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions :


Store it at room temperature.

Composit uses/ indication of ETILAAM 0.25mg :

Amnesic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant, insomnia, anxiety or panic attacks.

Composit contra indication of ETILAAM 0.25mg :

Increased eye pressure, coma, sleep disorder, severe liver impairment, porphyria, severe lung disease, and hypersensitivity.

Composit side effects of ETILAAM 0.25mg :

Drowsiness, light-headedness, malaise, jaundice, thirst, nausea, retching, rash and weakness.

Composit caution of ETILAAM 0.25mg :

Severe hepatic, renal, cardiac and cerebral organic disturbance. Children, elderly. May be impair ability to drive or operate heavy machinery.

Drowsiness, Sedation, Muscle Weakness And Ataxia. Less Frequently, Vertigo, Headache, Confusion, Depression, Slurred Speech Or Dysarthria, Changes In Libido, Tremor, Visual Disturbances, Urinary Retention Or Incontinence, GI Disturbances, Changes In Salivation And Amnesia.

Drug Interactions of Etilaam 0.25mg Tab 10s:

Enhanced Sedation Or Respiratory And CV Depression With Drugs With CNS Depressant Properties E.G., Antidepressants, Antihistamines, Antipsychotics, General Anaesthetics, Other Hypnotics Or Sedatives, Opioid Analgesics And Cisapride. Calcium-Channel Blockers; Clonidine; Diazoxide; Disulfiram; Clozapine; Diuretics; Moxonidine; Nabitone; Nitrates; Cimetidine, Esomeprazole And Omeprazole; Muscle Relaxants; Dopaminergics; Lofexidine; Hydralazine, Minoxidil And Nitroprusside; Antifungals; Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonist; Antiepileptics; Β-Blockers; Antibacterials. Alcohol.

Contraindications of Etilaam 0.25mg Tab 10s:

Acute Narrow-Angle Glaucoma; Myasthenia Gravis; Resp Depression; Coma; Acute Pulmonary Insufficiency; Sleep Apnoea Syndrome; Severe Hepatic Impairment. Chronic Psychosis. Phobic Or Obsessional States; May Precipitate Suicide Or Aggressive Behavior, Not To Be Used Alone To Treat Depression Or Anxiety Associated With Depression. Porphyria. Pregnancy And Lactation. Neonates.

Special Precautions for Etilaam 0.25mg Tab 10s:

Chronic Pulmonary Insufficiency, Muscle Weakness, Impaired Liver Or Kidney Function, Or In Patients With History Of Alcohol Or Drug Addiction. Elderly Or Debilitated Patients. May Affect Performance Of Skilled Tasks. Patients With Personality Disorders Or Organic Brain Changes. Hypotension Occasionally Occur With High Dosage.
